Acting Chairman of State Agency
for Bulgarians Abroad
Relieved of Duties
Sofia, October 15 (BTA) - The acting Chairman of the State
Agency for Bulgarians Abroad, Yordan Yanev, has been relieved of
his duties by order of the caretaker Prime Minister Georgi
Bliznashki, the Government Information Service said Wednesday.
The step comes in the wake of alerts about irregularities
related to violation of requirements of the Bulgarian
Citizenship Act, the Bulgarians Living outside the Republic of
Bulgaria Act, as well as poor control on the part of the
agency's leaders.
Recommendations made by the Supreme Administrative Prosecution
Office in January 2014 were not carried out on time or in full.
The present leadership of the agency failed to guarantee
transparency of work and objectivity of the procedures involving
issuance of certificates attesting to Bulgarian origin, Deputy
Prime Minister Iliyana Tsanova states in her report on the case.
The next regular government should take concrete steps in this
direction after it receives the results of the investigations
ordered today, she says.
The probe with which Tsanova has commissioned the Chief
Inspectorate of the Council of Ministers comes in the wake of
publications in the media which quote the results of a
prosecutorial investigation for the period 2011-2013 citing
violations of procedures at issuance of certificates attesting
to Bulgarian origin, contradictory practices and subjective
decisions.
Tsanova has also referred the case to the Commission for
Prevention and Counteracting Corruption at the Council of
Ministers. The report of the Chief Inspectorate will be prepared
by October 30 and will be submitted to the Prime Minister and
the relevant Deputy Prime Minister. The check will also cover
the agency's work in 2014./LI/BR
