International Police Operation Results in Recovery of 18 Stolen Vehicles in Bulgaria

Sofia, October 26 (BTA) - A total of 18 stolen vehicles valued
at 220,550 leva were recovered in Bulgaria as part of an
international ITACAR police operation, said the Interior
Ministry's Criminal Police Chief Directorate said on Sunday.

The law enforcement authorities of Austria, Belgium, Cyprus,
Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece,
Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the
Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Britain, the Czech Republic,
Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Slovenia, Hungary took part in
the operation, which targeted vehicle crime. TISPOL and FRONTEX
also participated.

A total of 9,550 cars, 1,441 trucks, 126 motorcycles, 245
construction machines and 173 other vehicles were checked as
part of the country-wide operation, including 10,085 persons and
15,095 documents. The checks found 17 stolen cars and one
motorcycle, as well as 67 persons declared wanted in the
national and the Schengen information systems.

Three drug-related crimes were solved, along with one case of
illegal possession of weapons, seven cases of forged documents
and eight other crimes.
