BSP-Left Bulgaria:
Parties Should Refrain
from Obscure Government Formulas
Sofia, October 27 (BTA) - Addressing the 43rd legislature on
Monday, Bulgarian Socialist Party-Left Bulgaria Floor Leader
Mihail Mikov urged parties to refrain from obscure government
formulas, which would do nothing to help overcome the crisis in
this country's democratic development. "There are no
programmatic or technocratic governments. Each government when
supported by more than one party is a coalition government,"
Mikov said.
He said it wasnТt fair to the people if politicians hid behind
these formulas.
Mikov said that the 43rd Parliament was varied but more than
half of Bulgarian voters who chose not to vote were not
represented. "The elections in themselves are not an answer to
anything," Mikov said.
"All parliamentary parties should assume their responsibility in
this situation and live up to the expectations of voters," said
Mikov.
He said that BSP-Left Bulgaria will be a constructive
opposition, will table bills and will support those bills that
it considers important.
He said that his group will take part in solving issues of
national significance such as the case with Corporate Commercial
Bank, the need for updating the budget and issues in the energy
sector.
"We are ready to take part in discussions on national
priorities," said Mikov. However, the BSP won't back down from
the 12 highlights of its election platform, as they legitimize
the BSP as a representative of the authentic Left and an
alternative to the Right.
Mikov said that BSP-Left Bulgaria puts the welfare state at the
core of its ideology, also supporting progressive income
taxation and a more active role of the state in market
regulation.
"BSP-Left Bulgaria supports the sustained efforts for economic
progress but it must be remembered that progress itself does not
ensure social justice," said Mikov. LI/PP
