Plovdiv, October 27 (BTA) - Over 576,000 Bulgarians have
diabetes and 150,000 are undiagnosed, Elisaveta Kotova of the
National Association of Children and Young People with Diabetes
told BTA. The Association held Diabetes Days within the Medicus,
Dento, Galenia exhibition at the Plovdiv International Fair.

Kotova said that 10 per cent of patients are usually diagnosed
with diabetes during free screenings.

Some 1,576 Bulgarian children have Type 1 diabetes, requiring
insulin replacement therapy. Children as young as 7 to 8-month
old are diagnosed with the disease.

In Europe, 22.4 per cent of the population have diabetes. In
2013 worldwide 382 million people had diabetes. In 2035, 592
million people in the world are expected to have diabetes, said
