Constitutional Court Returns to Supreme Administrative Court All Five Petitions for Partial Invalidation
of Parliamentary Election Results
Sofia, October 28 (BTA) - Constitutional Court President Dimitar
Tokushev has ordered the return to the Supreme Administrative
Court (SAC) all five motions for partial invalidation of the
results of the October 5 early parliamentary elections.
Tokushev's order was published on the Constitutional Court
website on Tuesday.
The Constitutional Court President reasoned that the SAC should
have checked by itself the allegations of irregularities set
forth in the motions and should have drawn up a petition of its
own. Tokushev argues that the requirements of the Constitutional
Court Act and of the Election Code were not complied with in
this case.
Less than a week ago, the SAC decided in a Plenary Meeting to
transfer to the Constitutional Court the five motions filed by
various parties for partial invalidation of the election
results. One of the motions came from the Patriotic Front and
concerns the results of the voting in Turkey. Another motion was
entered by independent candidate Nikola Vaptsarov, nominated by
a nomination committee in Blagoevgrad (Southwestern Bulgaria).
The third appeal was lodged by the New Bulgaria, New Alternative
and United Bulgaria parties, which urge for the annulment of
the election of MPs in 25 multi-member constituencies and in
Turkey. The fourth appeal was filed by five MP candidates in
Kyustendil (Southwestern Bulgaria). The last motion is signed by
representatives of the Reformist Bloc, who seek cancellation of
the voting in Plovdiv (South Central Bulgaria).
