Prosecuting Magistracy to Demand
at least Five MPs to Be Stripped
of Immunity

Sofia, October 30 (BTA) - Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov
Thursday told journalists that within ten days the prosecuting
magistracy will finish a check aimed at determining the members
of the 43rd National Assembly against whom there are pending
proceedings. He added that for now the prosecuting magistracy
will move for lifting the immunity of at least five MPs, some of
whom are national representatives for the first time and others
for a second or third time.

Two weeks ago, Tsatsarov said that he will move for lifting the
immunity of all MPs against whom there are pending lawsuits, and
listed the names of former interior minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov,
Ataka leader Volen Siderov and MEP Sergei Stanishev.
The crimes for which they are being investigated are of various
nature, including tax fraud.

Tsatsarov specified that the requests for the lifting of MP
immunity will not be made
selectively, but will cover all the persons against whom there
are cases for crimes of general nature and will be submitted to
Parliament simultaneously.

Tsatsarov has received a letter from Tsvetanov requesting that
he be stripped of his MP immunity so that the three cases
against him can continue. The Prosecutor General explained,
however, that the legal procedure requires the National Assembly
to take a decision on the matter.
