Academy of Sciences President Vodenicharov


Sofia, November 1 (BTA) - Conferring the Order of the Balkan
Range, First Class, on Academician Stefan Vodenicharov on
Saturday, President Rosen Plevneliev said the Day of National
Awakeners stands for the Bulgarians' revival from the darkest
times through education and moral values.

The highest honour was conferred on the President of the
Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) on the Day of National
Awakeners for his contribution to the development of science.

Plevneliev said: "Awakening is a state of mind which every
generation must rediscover and attain for itself to be able to
go forward." Turning to Vodenicharov, he said: "We are proud to
say today that the first national awakeners have a worthy
successor in you."

The President presented the Honorary Badge to Vodenicharov on
the occasion of the 145th anniversary of the BAS. Plevneliev
also presented the Honorary Badge to the Union of Scientists in
Bulgaria, which is marking its 70th anniversary. PK/DD
