Want Immediate Access to Corpbank Savings,
Gear for Fresh Protests
Sofia, November 4 (BTA) - At a news conference on Tuesday,
depositors demanded that guaranteed deposits at Corporate
Commercial Bank (Corpbank), which is under special supervision
since June, should be paid without delay. They also urged that
the bank should be rescued and that those responsible for the
bank's plight should be brought to justice.
Iliya Zyumbyulev said that people have been driven to
desperation as they don't feel protected by the state. He said
that elsewhere such cases are resolved in days while the
Corpbank case has dragged for five months. Zyumbyulev urged that
responsible central bank officials and politicians should be
held accountable. In his words, there are political circles,
members of the last five governments and people with enormous
clout on Bulgarian media, among those who plundered the bank.
Bozhidar Tomalevski of the Other Bulgaria party said that his
party's legal experts will lodge an application by Corpbank
depositors at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg
because their savings have been blocked for five months.
Tomalevski said that a protest will be staged outside the
National Assembly at noon on Wednesday.
Tomalevski said that negotiations are underway with a company
that tracks cash flows and assets globally.
Lawyer Alexander Pelev, representative for the CCI company in
Bulgaria, said that all methods employed by the company are
legal and can be used in court. Whether all missing assets will
be recovered will depend on each country's jurisdiction, he
added. LI/PP
