Socialist Leader Mikov: All Who Support Governance Participate in Government
Sofia, November 5 (BTA) - Emerging from political consultations
with President Rosen Plevneliev Wednesday, Bulgarian Socialist
Party (BSP) leader Mihail Mikov said that in BSP's understanding
of a coalition, all who support the governance are part of the
ruling coalition.
Wednesday saw the end of the political consultations the
President held with the parties in the new Parliament.
Mikov said that who and how support the future governance must
be clear to the people. He said the BSP is of the opinion that
forming a government will be a good thing. He noted again that
the results of the October 5 early elections showed that the
left's place is in opposition, so that a right-centrist majority
is to be sought.
Asked to comment the programmatic statement for the future
governance, Mikov said that this was a document which the BSP
would hardly support, given that it maps out rightist priorities
and "a neo-liberal understanding of politics as technology,
instead of addressing the social needs at the moment".
Mikov declined to comment the preliminary composition of the
future cabinet and how long he thought it would survive.
The talks with the President also focused on the problem of the
big disparities existing in Bulgaria. In Mikov's words, the
rightist majority is not showing an understanding of these
disparities, at least not in the draft programmatic statement,
which he said will continue to generate a perception of grave
unfairness in the people. Mikov once again stated the
Socialists' position in favour of progressive taxation and for
keeping unchanged the retirement age.
