European Commission Closes Infringement Procedure against Bulgaria over Patient Rights

Sofia, December 2 (BTA) - On October 26, 2014, the European
Commission closed an infringement procedure against Bulgaria in
connection with its failure to transpose Directive 2011/24/EU of
the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2011 on
the application of patients' rights in cross-border healthcare,
the press centre of the Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

The procedure was terminated due to the fact the relevant
Bulgarian institutions have adopted the necessary changes to the
Health Act and the Health Insurance Act.
Ordinance No. 5 on the terms and procedure for the application
of patients' rights in cross-border healthcare was also amended
accordingly and the new version was published in the State
Gazette.

All this gave grounds to the Commission to terminate the
procedure. Directive 2011/24/EC aims to consolidate the Court of
Justice case-law regarding cross-border healthcare.
