Vice President: Broad Expert and Public Consensus Should Be Sought on Pension Reform

Sofia, December 22 (BTA) - "The pension reform is a part of the
major topic of the social state and when talking about pension
funds, age and retirement, we should not be in a hurry but seek
a broad expert and public consensus," Vice President Margarita
Popova said in Plovdiv on Monday, approached to comment on the
proposals for the pension reform. It is only after relevant
decisions are taken on a broad basis with a high number of
partners that they should be turned into legal norms and
political decisions, she added.

The concept "social state" involves making policies, which bring
benefit, good and possibility for the people from different
ages to have a worthy life, the Vice President said. She noted
that the elderly people should not have a decent but a worthy
life. There is no policy, launched after 1989, which has been
developed in a hasty manner and which has been successful, she
noted. The policies should not contradict each other but be
sustainable, Popova observed further.

"When it is for the good of our parents, who have built up this
state and want to live in a worthy manner, I am glad, when GERB,
the Movement for Rights and Freedoms and all the rest vote in
the same way," the Vice President said.

Popova was in Plovdiv for the closing of Ognyan Panov's photo
exhibition "Life of Minorities in Bulgaria". The show was
unveiled about a month ago by Abraham Foxman, National Director
of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), one of the most influential
Jewish organizations in the world. The exhibition is expected
to tour 14 cities in this country next year. /LI/TK/
