Most of Prison Guards' Demands Will Be Fulfilled
Sofia, January 27 (BTA) - Most of prison guards' demands will be
fulfilled, Ivan Petrov, Chair of the Union of Prison Employees
in Bulgaria, told a news conference on Tuesday emerging from a
meeting with the officials of the Justice Ministry.
Prison guards from penitentiaries across the country have been
protesting manyfold in 2014 to demand higher wages and better
working conditions.
Prison guards will receive payment for night labour and
availability as of January, Deputy Justice Minister Andrei
Yankoulov said. An optimization of the structures is underway
within the system: units are merged with the purpose of closing
redundant senior and administrative positions. The efforts aim
to affect least employees working on-the-spot. Ten per cent of
the staff of the Head Office of the Implementation of Penal
Sanctions Chief Directorate will also be laid off, said
Yankoulov.
