Coordinated Efforts Needed between Ministries, NGOs for Integration Policy to Succeed

Sofia, January 30 (BTA) - Coordinated efforts between the
ministries and the non-governmental organizations are required
for the integration policy to succeed, concurred Labour and
Social Policy Minister Ivailo Kalfin and NGOs representatives at
a working meeting, Kalfin's Ministry said in a press release.

Kalfin and representatives of a foundation for health problems
of minority groups and of the Bulgarian Association for Family
Planning and Sexual Health discussed successful practices and
new opportunities for introducing effective measures to improve
the integration of risk groups.

Kalfin said that the most effective measures are being sought
which can be applied immediately and thus counteract the
processes of strong marginalization of separate social groups.
He said that early first births and early dropping out of
schools and of the labour market are only part of the process of
social marginalization of risk groups.

The participants in the meeting suggested the conduct of an
awareness campaign, demonstration of good practices, improvement
of education and outlining clear prospects as some of the
measures. The participants stressed that the most important
thing is for the efforts to be coordinated so that the problem
is tackled from many directions: via education, legislation and
even via changing the regulations for use of social services.
