Foreign Minister Mitov Confers with German Counterpart  Steinmeier in Berlin

Berlin, January 30 (BTA) - Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov
conferred here Friday with his German counterpart, Federal
Foreign Minister Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Mitov is paying an
official visit to Germany at SteinmeierТs invitation, MitovТs
ministry said.

The sides discussed a number of bilateral issues with a focus on
the opportunities for more German investments in Bulgaria after
the official announcement of the German governmentТs decision
to resume government guarantees for German exporters and
investors in Bulgaria.

"We work well with Bulgaria and enjoy close cooperation,"
Steinmeier said after the talks.

He has accepted MitovТs invitation to visit Bulgaria and will
come to Sofia in March.

In his opinion, the readiness the Bulgarian government declared
to reform the judicial system and step up the fight against
corruption is an important sign to German investors and all
Europe.

In turn, Mitov assured his host that the Bulgarian authorities
are determined to undertake active actions with the judicial
strategy reform to restore rule of law. The present first
official meeting between the foreign ministers of Bulgaria and
Germany is sending clear signals about the priority strategic
importance of relations between the two countries.

Mitov and Steinmeier also discussed topical issues on the
international agenda, including the conflict in Ukraine and
dialogue between the EU and Russia. They are of the opinion that
abidance by the Minsk Agreement is the only way to tone down
tension and a chance to find a political solution to the crisis.

Steinmeier and Mitov expressed condolences to the family of the
first democratically elected president of Bulgaria, Zhelyu
Zhelev, who passed away on Friday.
