Sofia, January 31 (BTA) - Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev
has sent a letter of condolences to German President Joachim
Gauck on the death of Richard von Weizsaecker, who served as
President of Germany between 1984 and 1994, the head of State's
Press Secretariat said on Saturday.

"On behalf of the Bulgarian people and on my own behalf, I would
like to express deepest condolences on the death of Richard von
Weizsaecker. He will go down in history as a great statesman
and a unifier of the German nation," the letter reads.

"He played an enormous role in overcoming the dire legacy after
the end of the Second World War and in building modern Germany,
which we all appreciate as a worthy partner and a loyal friend,"
the Bulgarian head of State writes. PK/LG
