Louvre-hosted Thracian Art Exhibition
Short of EUR 300,000, Campaign for
Public Donations Launched

Sofia, February 2 (BTA) - There is a shortage of 300,000 euro in
the funding of the exhibition titled the "Epopee of Thracian
Kings: Archaeological Finds in Bulgaria" which will be on
display from April 15 to July 20, 2015 in the Richelieu Wing of
the Louvre. The French embassy in Sofia is launching a campaign
for public donations and sponsors, French Ambassador here,
Xavier Lapeyre de Cabanes, told reporters Monday.

The overall budget is 900,000 euro, the Louvre participating
with 360,000 euro, the French embassy - with 110,000 euro and
another 130,000 euro have been received from sponsors.

Placards inscribed with "It must be dolled up to go to Paris!"
and featuring a gold and silver shinguard depicting a Thracian
goddess will popularize the fund-raising campaign. The item,
which was discovered in 1965 in the northwestern city of Vratsa,
is in need of restoration worth 30,000 euro. The donations will
be sent to the Committee established in support of the
exhibition.

A Bulgarian cultural season featuring films, concerts and other
exhibitions will accompany the event. Ambassador De Cabanes will
also offer the Bulgarian government to organize an
advertisement campaign focused on the opportunities for cultural
tourism. Academic and business events will also be held in
Sofia and Paris.

Three reciprocal exhibitions presenting items from the Louvre
have been planned to be hosted by Bulgaria while the Thracian
exhibition is in Paris. These will feature Roman and Egyptian
art, as well as Andre Derain's "Satiricon".

Five French and two Bulgarian experts are heading the
restoration works with specialists from the 17 museums from
which the items come.

Journalists from major French publications like "Le Monde" and
"Le Figaro" will also "trace the footsteps of Thracian
archaeology in Bulgaria" until February 5./LY/BR
