Security Issues, Challenges before Bulgaria, Europe on Agenda of Tsvetanov's Talks in USA

Washington, February 4 (BTA) - GERB Floor Leader and Deputy
Chair Tsvetan Tsvetanov had working meetings here with R. James
Woolsey, Chairman of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies,
and with members of the Board of Directors of the American
Jewish Committee (AJC), GERB's press centre said on Wednesday.

The floor leader of GERB's parliamentary group and GERB deputy
leader Tsvetan Tsvetanov is in Washington to attend the annual
National Prayer Breakfast on February 5. His official programme
also includes meetings with US congressmen and senators.

Different aspects of regional security were on the agenda of the
Tsvetanov-Woolsey talks. Special attention was paid to the
excellent level of the strategic cooperation in a number of key
areas, such as security, law-enforcement, countering
international terrorism and organized crime.

At the meeting with the AJC Board of Directors, Tsvetanov
presented the internal political situation in Bulgaria, the
situation in the region and the current challenges facing
Bulgaria and the rest of Europe. The sides voiced an opinion
that manifestation of xenophobia should not be allowed within
the European societies because this does not correspond to the
European and Euro-Atlantic values. The role, which Bulgaria and
the Bulgarian people played for the salvation of the Bulgarian
Jews during WWII was recalled in support of this statement.
