Opposition Socialists Give Negative Assessment to Cabinet's First 100 Days in Office


Sofia, February 22 (BTA) - "The opposition BSP [Bulgarian
Socialist Party] gives a negative assessment to the Government's
 first 100 days in office," BSP National Council Deputy Chairman
 Yanaki Stoilov said here on Sunday. He presented the National
Council's position on the 100 days since the incumbent Cabinet
took office.

Stoilov said that the Government takes credit mostly for its own
 existence and for obviating the need of new early elections.
"Apart from the four-entity coalition, the Cabinet is also
backed by floating majorities in Parliament, which serve
financial and economic groups, and the aspiration is to belittle
 the role of the BSP," Stoilov said. He argued that the
Government pursues "a policy of spending at everybody's expense
without having ensured the resources, and this is burdening
future generations."

"The Cabinet does not set itself clear objectives for the
country's development and simulates reforms. The guiding motive
is to stabilize the situation until the next elections," Stoilov
 noted. "The Government, however, is doing nothing about the
abuses in the banking system; on the contrary, it is planning to
 contract a scandalous loan of 16,000 million leva. The debt
does not include money for investments but will be repaid by
generations of Bulgarian citizens."

Stoilov said further that the Government is broadening social
and regional disparities, does not envisage effective measures
for job creation and increase of income and for reduction of
unemployment. "The Cabinet wasted an opportunity to implement
major energy projects, as a result of which Bulgaria incurs
enormous losses," he added. "The Cabinet is also preparing the
stationing of heavy armaments within the country's territory and
 a unit for coordination of NATO's Rapid Deployable Corps."
