European Commission Not Worried by Bulgaria's External Debt

Sofia, March 8 (BTA) - The European Commission is not concerned
with the issue of Bulgaria's external debt because it is very
low: it is not expected to exceed 30 per cent and will more
likely be around 27 per cent of the gross domestic product,
European Commission Vice President Kristalina Georgieva said.
She took part as a visiting lecturer in the European Debate
initiative, organized by Deputy Prime Minister Meglena
Kuneva. The topic of the discussion was: Women in Governance -
European Challenges.

Georgieva recalled that the European Central Bank has introduced
negative interest rates adding that this is an unique measure
needed to fight deflation. It is important how the resource
outside the allocation for the payment of existing debts and
interests will be used. Georgieva pointed out that Bulgaria's
growth is still low. This has been the first time after 2007
that all EU countries are expected to report growth.

Georgieva recalled the launching of the "Junker Plan" and
advised to utilize reasonably the investment process.

The nominee for Interior Minister, Roumyana Buchvarova, will
bring stability to the system, Georgieva commented. Buchvarova
will certainly make people believe that they have a leader, who
is open and who will rely on citizens, so as to do her job well,
the Commissioner also said. She noted that hopes are placed
with Buchvarova for the e-government, which is an area, where
Bulgaria still has unsatisfactory performance.
