Eight More Rila Residents Test Positive for Brucellosis, Bringing Number of Infected to 21

Kyustendil, Southwest Bulgaria, August 7 (BTA) - Eight new
persons from the town of Rila have tested positive for
brucellosis, said Health Minister Peter Moskov during a press
conference here on Friday.

"The local population does not have the feeling that what they
are doing is wrong and harmful to theirs and their children's
health. The last person, who was infected, contracted the
disease because he was healing himself with milk from an
infected animal," Moskov said.

Minister Moskov explained that the information campaign for
preventing the disease is continuing in the town.

The number of registered brucellosis cases in Rila currently
stands at 21. Samples from 32 residents were sent to Sofia on
August 3 for medical testing after a brucellosis outbreak was
reported in the area last week.

The outbreak was first detected in three farms in Rila and
announced on July 29. Back then, 15 goats tested positive for
brucellosis.
