Construction of Maritsa Motorway Completed

Orizovo, Southern Bulgaria, October 29 (BTA) - The last built 31.4 km section of the Maritsa Motorway in Southern Bulgaria was unveiled on Thursday by President Rosen Plevneliev, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, Regional Development Minister Liliyana Pavlova and Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski.

The Maritsa Motorway is 117 km long and connects the Trakia Motorway with the Bulgarian-Turkish border. It became the third complete motorway in Bulgaria after Trakia and Lyulin.

The construction of the last section between Orizovo and Dimitrovgrad was co-financed by the EU Cohesion Fund and the national budget through Operational Programme "Transport 2007-2013." The building contract was worth 159.8 million leva and the building supervision contract was worth 678,600 leva.

This is one of two sections (or lots) of the Maritsa Motorway funded through Operational Programme "Transport 2007-2013." The previous one, which runs between Dimitrovgrad and Harmanli and is 34.2 km long, was inaugurated on May 28.
