GERB Has Mayors in 21 or 22 Regional Centres, Strong Showing for Reformist Bloc in Local Elections

Sofia, November 2 (BTA) - As the early results from the elections run off on Sunday emerged, it became clear that GERB will have mayors in 21 or 22 regional centres, the Reformist Bloc in four regional centres and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms in one.

Only the vote in Plovdiv is still uncertain. Boryana Dimitrova of the Alpha Research polling agency said it was extremely difficult to predict the winner in the mayoral race in Plovdiv. On national television Dimitrova unveiled figures based on 95 per cent of ballots in the parallel count in Plovdiv.

Dimitrova announced a more dramatic narrowing of the gap in Plovdiv with 50.2 per cent for Ivan Totev (GERB) against 49.8 per cent for Slavcho Atanasov (Patriotic Front). She expressed doubts whether there will be any definitive results even after the complete parallel count and not until the Central Election Commission has announced the final results for Plovdiv.

In some municipalities, the municipal election commissions announced results based on 100 per cent of tally sheets, while polling agencies announced the first results from the parallel count.
