Socialist Leader Mikov Addresses Organizers, Participants in 11th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media

Sofia, November 4 (BTA) - In an address to organizers and
participants in the 11th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media,
Bulgarian Socialist Party leader Mihail Mikov said that through
the years Bulgarian media around the world have become an
irreplaceable source of information about events in their native
country for Bulgarians who live and work abroad.

Mikov says that the media abroad can afford to be objective as
they don't depend on the state of affairs in Bulgaria.

According to Mikov, Bulgarian media abroad bring together
Bulgarian communities and help preserve the national identity.
Print and electronic media and television are part of the
cultural life of Bulgarian emigrants and they keep alive the
connection with Bulgaria, which many have left for economic
reasons and to which they dream of returning one day.

Bulgarian media both in the country and abroad should become
freer and be objective to their readership, which is their right
and obligation. They should cooperate actively in the
implementation of their main task: to provide honest information
about important events and issues which impact directly
people's way of life and about the prospects before their
country, says Mikov.

The 11th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media is held in Athens from
 November 4 to 8.
It is organized by the Bulgarian News Agency and the Association
of Bulgarian Media Abroad. This year's edition is titled "Media
and Cultural Differences. Dialogue between Neighbours".
