Prime Minister Borissov Expresses Firm Support for Protecting EU External Borders in Same Way as Bulgarian Borders

Brussels, December 17 (BTA Correspondent Nikolay Jeliazkov) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov Thursday said he is firmly in favour of protecting EU external borders in the same way as Bulgarian ones, and countries which cannot manage this receiving assistance. He was approached by Bulgarian journalists in Brussels in relation to the topics on the agenda of the European Council meeting on December 17 and 18.

During this visit to Brussels, Borissov also took part in a meeting of the European People's Party (EPP).

"I am glad that what I have been talking about for months, became a position of the European Commission. I explained clearly and precisely both in the EPP and at the European Council meetings how the Schengen borders should be protected," Borissov said.

He expressed the expectation that the European Council will manage to take a position on limiting the migration flows and on migrants in the EU finding realization, education and a job. He also expressed the hope that the migrants staying in the EU will be integrated and afterwards, based on a quota principle and the available capabilities, new ones will be accepted.

In his words, the respective checks should be carried out at the external borders and people running to save their lives should be allowed to cross. Those looking for a better way of life should be treated as economic migrants and seek to provide for themselves in another way, he added.
