Vidin, Northwestern Bulgaria, January 11 (BTA) - Road traffic along the second bridge over the Danube connecting Bulgaria and Romania at Vidin and Calafat increased 18 per cent in 2017 compared to the preceding year, Lyubomir Nizamov, head of the joint Bulgarian-Romanian company managing the bridge, said. In 2018 the bridge marks its fifth year of operation and expects the passage of the fourth million vehicle, Nizamov said.

In 2017 nearly one million vehicles crossed the bridge in both directions, Nizamov said. He attributed the growth in traffic to the major repair works on roads leading to bridge at Vidin.

The average daily traffic of lorries in November, the busiest month for lorries using of the bridge, was nearly 1,600 vehicles. In the summer, up to 3,000 cars and lorries crossed the bridge daily.
