Sofia, January 27 (BTA) - EU Commissioner for the Security Union Julian King on Friday visited the National Passenger Name Record (PNR) Unit at the State Agency for National Security (SANS).

SANS Chairman Dimiter Georgiev and his deputy Nikolai Nenkov outlined the unit's activities, which is among EU's first operating units. It was unveiled on December 7 2018 with the financial support of the EU.

EU Commissioner King was familiarized with progress made by Bulgaria in connection with the enforcement of the EU Directive 2016/618 of the European Parliament and of the Council of April 27 2016 on the use of Passenger Name Record data for the prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of terrorist offences and serious crime. The deadline for its enforcement is May 25 2018. He called on SANS officers to share their experience and good practices with their partners from the rest of the EU where PNR units are under establishments.
