April 27 (BTA) - The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Bulgaria has reached 1,348; 206 people have recovered and 56 have died, informed head of the national coronavirus task force Gen. Moutafchiiski at the regular morning briefing on Monday.

Over the last 24 hours, there are 58 new cases registered, 22 of them were hospitalized.

There are currently 7 active regions in Bulgaria. Pleven has 23 new cases, 17 of whom have been in contact with workers from the Mizia factory. There are 7 new cases of infected children. They have not been hospitalized.

A total of 147 medical staff have been infected, with 9 new cases.

There are a total of 1,141 active coronavirus cases in Bulgaria. Of them, 301 are in hospitals, and 41 are in intensive care units.

According to Gen. Moutafchiiski, there are objective reasons why the restrictive measures must not be lifted: while Bulgaria registered a slight peak in early April, followed by a drop in the morbidity rate, after Palm Sunday the curve started sloping upward. Any loosening of the measures would lead to an increased morbidity rate, he said.

Chief State Health Inspector Dr. Kunchev said that a cross-sectional study will be conducted in the central-southern city of Plovdiv by the end of the week. With the help of the district coronavirus task force, the study will try to cover various social groups and ages, he pointed out. RI/MT
