on Volen Siderov
Sofia, April 28 (BTA) - Sofia Regional Court waived the 50,000 leva bail set on Ataka leader Volen Siderov. He was charged with inciting disregard for the government's anti-epidemic restrictions by calling on people to attend en masse the Easter church services, as well as with resisting authorities' attempt to serve him a summons on April 13 to appear before the Sofia Directorate of Interior as a defendant in the case.
According to judge Nikolai Urumov, even in conditions of a global pandemic and state of emergency, a number of civil rights retain their importance and validity, as they are provided by the Constitution and protected by the Convention on Human Rights. The freedoms of speech and religion, along with many others, are inviolable and irreversible under the current legislation, and they cannot be restricted in any way, and most certainly not by a normative act that is lower-ranking than the Constitution, the Sofia Regional Court argued.
