Sofia, May 4 (BTA) - Bulgaria will contribute 100,000 euro to
the global effort to develop a vaccine against the coronavirus
and put it into use, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said at an
online fundraising conference organized by the European
Commission.

Opening the virtual fundraiser, European Commission President
Ursula von der Leyen proposed that the Commission pledge 1
billion euro for the development of a vaccine and treatments.

Borissov said that a crisis of this magnitude calls for a
strong, coordinated and wide-ranging global response and
solidarity among the partners.

Bulgaria firmly supports the activities of the United Nations
and all international organizations engaged in the fight against
COVID-19, Borissov said, noting specifically that the country
welcomes the efforts of the European Commission.

He said the European Union should be well-stocked with
protective clothing, face masks, goggles, tests, ventilators,
additional equipment and health worker protection expertise.
