site.btaDragomir Winery Estate Receives Grand Prize in Bulgarian Architecture Awards 2021

Sofia, November 17 (BTA) - The Dragomir winery estate, designed by arch. Todor Obreshkov and Zoom Studio, received the grand prize in the third edition of the Bulgarian Architecture Awards competition, organized by the Chamber of Architects in Bulgaria, the Chamber said on Wednesday.      

The building was constructed on the site of a former wine cellar in the village of Brestnik, Plovdiv region. One year after the opening, the wine cellar is a significant factor in the revival of the region.       

The grand prize was awarded to the winner by the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works arch. Violeta Komitova. In her greeting to the participants, she said: "I congratulate you for what you have created with your mind, creativity, and effort. You have captured the spirit of modern architecture and global trends; through your projects you have achieved what every modern building should strive for. What I see fills me with faith and hope for the future of Bulgaria."    

Four other projects received special awards from the international jury.     

For the first time in the framework of the competition, a prize for overall creativity was awarded on behalf of the Chamber of Architects in Bulgaria. The award was given to the great Bulgarian architect Lozan Lozanov, whose projects include the Pliska Hotel in Sofia, the Vanga Church in Rupite, the State Residence in Boyana, the Post Office in Ruse and many other notable buildings.       

The competition featured a total of 35 projects implemented in the period from the beginning of 2019 to September 2021, as the event was not held in 2020 due to the pandemic.
