Sofia, October 16 (BTA) - The Central Election Commission (CEC)
Wednesday decided to authorize its chairperson to draw up
written statements ascertaining administrative violations
committed by Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) Chairman
Lyutvi Mestan and the MRF leading candidate in the Bourgas
Constituency, Hyusein Hafuzov. The decision was published on the
CEC website.
The CEC was approached by a number of alerts from members of the
public and ascertained that in violation of Article 181 (2) of
the Election Code, Mestan and Hafuzov conducted the election
campaign in a language other than Bulgarian. The Commission
found that such violations were committed in the Vurbovka
Village near Pavlikeni on September 16, the Dolni Voden Village
near Plovdiv on September 23, and the Podkova Village near
Kurdjali on September 29.
After the written statements are drawn up and served, they will
be sent to the regional governors of Veliko Turnovo, Plovdiv and
Kurdjali for the issuing of penalty decrees. The administrative
sanction is a fine ranging from 200 to 2,000 leva.
