Dozens of Illegal Migrants
Detained
at Danube Bridge
Rousse, on the Danube, October 19 (BTA) - Thirty illegal Syrian
migrants and three Iraqis were caught hiding on a truck at
Rousse's Danube Bridge border checkpoint between Bulgaria and
Romania, the local border police said on Sunday. The Syrians
included three women and three children.
It was a Turkish-registered truck transiting Bulgaria on its way
to Finland. The vehicle was inspected on Saturday afternoon and
the migrants were found in the trailer. The Turkish driver had
declared that he was transporting conveyor belts.
A few hours later, Danube Bridge police also detained three
other Syrians travelling to Bucharest by taxi. The Syrians
produced Swedish IDs which had been given to them by other
persons.
The total number of outgoing illegal migrants caught at Danube
Bridge since April has increased to more than 200. The largest
group of 54 people, including 46 Syrians and 8 Iraqis, were
detained on October 3, again, on a Turkish-registered truck.
