President Plevneliev Sees
"No Option
for New Elections"
Sofia, October 20 (BTA) - President Rosen Plevneliev Monday said
he saw no option for new early parliamentary elections.
Speaking to reporters after the opening of the 10th World
Meeting of Bulgarian Media, Plevneliev said that the people
"have clearly set the direction in the 43rd National Assembly
towards reforms and electing a stable government".
According to the President, having elections in January or
February was "inadmissible from the point of view of the wish of
the people". "Elections within elections will be proof of
purely party calculations," he said.
The head of State said that Bulgaria needs a working Parliament
and a government. Commenting the first round of consultations on
forming a cabinet between the leading party after the elections
GERB and the other formations in the new Parliament, Plevneliev
said he was impressed with the proper tone and the constructive
approach. He said he expected that a second round of such talks
will be held "in substance". According to the President, the
only way to have a stable cabinet is for the political parties
to agree on a clear programme for action, broken down by months.
"The programme may not be precisely planned for four years, but
for at least one or two years ahead," he said.
Plevneliev added he will not take part in the creation of any
coalition formulas. "No coalitions will be created in the
institution of the President," he said.
