Bulgaria, Romania to Cooperate
in Construction of New
Bridges over Danube
Sofia, October 22 (BTA) - The Council of Ministers Wednesday
approved a draft memorandum of understanding between the
governments of Bulgaria and Romania on the conduct of research
for the construction of new bridges over the Danube. The
Transport, Information Technology and Communications Minister
was entrusted with holding the negotiations and signing the
memorandum, the Government Information Service said.
By signing the memorandum, the two sides will confirm their
intention to build new bridges over the Danube by giving
priority to research for the construction of two road bridges at
Silistra-Calarasi and Nikopol-Turnu Magurele. Such measures can
be funded under the Bulgaria-Romania Cross-border Cooperation
Programme 2014-2020.
The draft memorandum envisages the establishment of a
Bulgarian-Romanian working group on transport infrastructure
matters, comprising representatives of the interested
institutions. The working group's activity will be coordinated
at the level of transport and regional development ministers of
the participating countries.
Earlier, the Romanian agencies Mediafax and AGERPRES reported
that the Romanian government has also approved the holding of
negotiations and the signing of a memorandum with Bulgaria on
the construction of two new bridges over the Danube.
