Tsaribrod, October 22 (BTA) - "Copy-paste" journalism is turning
into a tumour and this theft of materials is flourishing with
the development of technologies, said the participants in the
Tenth World Meeting of Bulgarian Media on Wednesday. The third
day of the forum, which is organized by the Bulgarian News
Agency and the Association of Bulgarian Media Abroad, took place
in Tsaribrod (Dimitrovgrad), the centre of a region with
compact Bulgarian population.

Council for Electronic Media Chair Georgi Lozanov said that for
electronic media there is a mechanism for proving plagiarism and
sanctioning it, but on the Internet it is hard to defend
copyright. "There is a certain attitude in society that this is
an island of freedom where everyone can do whatever they want,"
he said, adding that self-regulation is possible where
regulation is impossible. "If Bulgaria had a chamber of
journalists and if it had the authority to expel someone, so
that he or she can no longer practice his or her profession,
then this problem, including the issue with copyright, would
have another value," the media expert said.

Tsaribrod Mayor Nebojsa Ivanov said that he is glad to host the
forum this year, after having participated in the annual world
meeting of Bulgarian media for years. He outlined the rich
cultural tradition of the region, mentioning the 10th Balkan
Theatre Fest which will take place in October. Over 85 theatres
have taken part in the festival and more than 3,000 people have
visited the event over the years.

A wreath was laid at the monument to Bulgarian freedom fighter
Vasil Levski in Tsaribrod.

The 10th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media has been organized in
association with CEZ, Raiffeisen Bank, Sopharma, and Trace Group
Hold.
