Science, Innovations and Security Cluster to Be Established under Memorandum
Signed at Defence Ministry

Sofia, October 24 (BTA) - A Memorandum of Incorporation of a
civil-law company for the purpose of establishment of a Science,
Innovations and Security Cluster was signed at the Bulgarian
Defence Ministry on Friday, the Ministry said in a press
release. Defence Minister Velizar Shalamanov attended the
signing.

A total of 18 partners: the State-owned military repair works,
the higher military schools and the National Defence Academy,
research institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and
non-governmental organizations, are joining the incorporation of
the civil-law company.

The establishment of the cluster is part of the steps taken to
accelerate the modernization of the armed forces and catch up on
the processes of acquisition of new defence capabilities, the
press release says. The company will contribute to the
implementation of the National Programme "Bulgaria in NATO and
European Defence 2020", adopted by the Council of Ministers, as
a strategy for modernization.

The Council of Ministers will establish a position for a
national technical expert in Brussels in support of the
implementation of the National Programme. The expert will
facilitate the involvement of the Bulgarian industry in projects
of NATO, the EU and Member States of the Alliance and the
Union, as well as the participation of the agencies, together
with Bulgarian enterprises, in the implementation of
modernization projects for the security sector.
