Bulgarian Politicians React to Deadly Attack on French Satirical Magazine


Sofia, January 7 (BTA) - Bulgarian politicians condemned
strongly Wednesday's attack on the offices of the French
satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo which left 12 people dead.

In a statement Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said: "Bulgaria
strongly condemns the attack on the Charlie Hebdo magazine. We
are indignant at the violent deaths and encroachment on the
freedom of speech. We express our solidarity with the French
people at this difficult time for all of us and Europe and we
empathize with the families of the victims. There is no cause
which justifies terror. As NATO and EU allies, Bulgaria and
France are working together to deflect new threats to security
and peace."

President Rosen Plevneliev cabled condolences to his French
counterpart Francois Hollande over the deadly attack on Charlie
Hebdo's offices, Plevneliev's press secretariat said. The
Bulgarian head of State expressed heartfelt condolences to the
families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the
wounded.

Culture Minister Vezhdi Rashidov has condoled with French
Ambassador here Xavier Lapeyre de Cabanes over the deadly
attack.

"I strongly condemn this heinous act of terror but unfortunately
the terrorist threat is everywhere and evidently no one is
safe. For me nothing is dearer than human life and no cause or
ideology can justify terror," said Rashidov.

In a statement the Bulgarian Socialist Party condemned the
terror attack. Socialist leader Mihail Mikov has cabled
condolences to Ambassador De Cabanes, expressing solidarity with
France at this difficult time.
