Energy Minister Petkova: "Southern Gas Corridor
Implementation Will Give Europe
Secure, Independent Energy Supplies"

Baku/Sofia, February 12 (BTA) - "Bulgaria supports the development of
the Southern Gas Corridor, and Bulgaria's gas interconnectors
with Greece and Turkey are an integral part of its development,"
Bulgarian Energy Minister Temenouzhka Petkova said, quoted by
her Ministry in a press release, at the first meeting of the
Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council here on Thursday.

"The two interconnectors, together with the Bulgarian national
gas transmission system, will make the Southern Corridor
accessible not only to Bulgaria but to the countries of Central
and Southeastern Europe as well," she added.

At the Advisory Council meeting, Petkov also presented
Bulgaria's initiative for the setting up of a gas hub as a pilot
project for the establishment of a European Energy Union. In
her words, the hub could distribute natural gas from Russia as
well as Azerbaijani gas coming over the Southern Gas Corridor.
In future, the hub can also rely on gas locally extracted from
deep-water deposits in the Black Sea. PK/LG
