Mobile App Helps Tourists Plan Their Route in Pirin National Park

Sofia, October 15 (BTA) - A mobile application helps tourists
plan their route in Pirin National Park (PNP), the PNP
Department told a BTA-hosted news conference Thursday.

The application helps tourists learn where the most notable
areas are located, where they can see the most beautiful views
and where they can pass from. The app has an integrated GPS map
and once installed, it does not need an Internet connection to
work.

The PNP Department also presented a project entitled
"Sustainable Management of Pirin National Park and the Tisata
Reserve", implemented with the financial support of Operational
Programme Environment 2007-2013, co-funded by the EU through the
European Regional Development Fund. The project, which is worth
19,791,600 leva, will be concluded on October 31.

Project leader Strahil Hristov said that more than 60 activities
have been carried out on the park's territory and the adjacent
municipalities in the last three years. The activities are
mostly aimed at conservation of biodiversity: protection of the
wild cat populations, protection and sustainment of the
populations of the marten, the wood-grouse capercaillie, the
hazel grouse, the three-finger woodpecker, the southern crested
newt, the yellow-bellied toad, and the boreal owl.

An avalanche safety system has been constructed along the
western slope of Todorka Peak, Hristov also said.
