Bulgarian Municipalities Absorbed EU 4,000 Mln-Plus under EU Programmes in 2007-2013

Dobrich, Northeastern Bulgaria, June 28 (BTA) - The Bulgarian municipalities absorbed more than 4,000 million euro during the first programming period of the EU Structural Funds (2007-2013), National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria (NAMRB) Executive Director Ginka Chavdarova said here on Tuesday.

The financial resources were invested in improvement of the municipal infrastructure, renovation of school and kindergarten buildings and roads, construction of playgrounds, landscaping of parks, etc., Chavdarova said.

The NAMRB insists on a restructuring of the tax system, so that the municipalities could have their own revenues and genuine financial decentralization could be achieved in the coming years, the Association's Executive Director said.

"The NAMRB has established a central purchasing body which will handle public procurement procedures shared by multiple municipalities so as to achieve lower prices," Chavdarova said.
