Supra-Partisan Platform for New Republic to Seek Right Unity without GERB's "Fake Right"

Sofia, February 4 (BTA) - "We have always wanted Right unity, but this can only happen as an alternative to the 'fake Right of the socialist party GERB'," New Republic Chairman Radan Kanev said at the presentation of the supra-partisan platform here on Saturday.

Kanev asked his followers to forgive him for involving them twice in a coalition with GERB. He said that Boyko Borissov's incumbency has resulted in less freedom, well-fed bureaucrats and rampaging cartels. Kanev insisted that the Left will be ousted from power for ever when the Right make sure that Borissov exits the political stage for ever.

"New Republic is the only alternative to the status quo," said Martin Dimitrov. He warned that GERB and the Bulgarian Socialist Party are preparing to govern together without an opposition. In his words, "the status-quo parties are ready for any underhand schemes".

Dimitrov argued that if New Republic comes to power, the economy can realistically grow by 6-7 per cent within four years, and incomes can rise by 50 per cent.

"When you have been in government over the last six to ten years and you haven't done it, you will never do it," Dimitrov said, commenting on the campaign promises of other political parties. "You can't promote small and midsize business and, at the same time, defend cartels and monopolies," he added.

"The purpose of the Platform is to change Bulgaria fundamentally," said New Republic Spokesman Traicho Traikov. "Then it will be impossible for individuals who put the interests of a foreign country before the interests of their own people to call themselves patriots," he emphasized.
