site.btaPrime Minister Borissov Informs over Phone Greek PM, Cypriot President about EU-Turkey Leaders' Meeting

Sofia, March 28 (BTA) - Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov Wednesday had a phone conversation with his Greek counterpart Alexis Tsipras and Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades to inform them about the matters raised during the EU-Turkey Leaders' Meeting in Varna (on the Black Sea) on March 26, the Government Information Service said.

The meeting brought together European Council President Donald Tusk, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, Bulgarian PM Borissov, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Borissov said that at his bilateral meeting with the Turkish President he raised the issues of the two Greek soldiers detained on Turkish territory, the tension in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean Sea, as well as the Cyprus Issue, and that these topics were later discussed over a working dinner with the presidents of the European Commission and the European Council. In the Bulgarian Prime Minister words, Juncker and Tusk insisted on a positive solution by Easter to the case with the detained Greek soldiers. On the matters concerning Cyprus Erdogan told them that a solution will be sought in conformity with international law. Borissov assured the Greek PM and the Cypriot President that both Bulgaria and Brussels will continue to follow closely the developments on this issue. According to the Bulgarian Prime Minister, the restoration of trust and peace in the region is a of critical important at present.

Tsipras and Anastasiades thanked Borissov for the discussion on these topics at the meeting in Varna.
