site.btaIn 2014-2017 Bulgaria Fulfills 60.7% of Energy Savings Target by 2020

Sofia, July 11 (BTA) - Bulgaria saved 5,056.3 GWh of energy between 2014 and 2017, thus fulfilling 60.7 per cent of the national energy savings target by 2020, the government press office reported on Wednesday. The information is contained in the annual report on the implementation of the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan in 2017, which was approved by the Council of Ministers at its weekly meeting earlier in the day.

The energy savings resulted from measures taken in all sectors of the national economy. They contributed directly to making the economy more competitive, boosting growth and creating jobs.

The energy savings also eased demand for imported conventional fuels. The report further says that many of the measures in the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan cannot be assessed until after the plan is implemented in full. The actual effect of the measures is expected to be stronger than reported so far.
