Specialist biologists from the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water (RIEW) in Haskovo observed a white stork left without a partner in Garvanovo village during two on-site inspections, the REWI said on Friday. 

The stork, which lives alone after the death of his partner, is apparently in good condition and brooding its eggs. A post on social media inspired a wave of sympathy from people across the country, willing to help the bird. The RIEW however stated that any human intervention at this stage can cause the bird to leave its nest.

The stork, like any wild animal, has strong instincts that guide it and will likely take off in search of food when the air temperatures are optimal for hatching the eggs and there is no risk to them, said the RIEW. The nest of the white stork in the village of Garvanovo is old and large, built on an artificial platform of an electric pole, with a dozen other stork nests nearby. The experts have established that the solitary bird demonstrates mating behaviour, therefore it is very likely to attract a new partner, the RIEW added.
