A total of 12 birds were released back into the wild on the outskirts of the Kremikovtsi Monastery near Sofia, after their stay at the Wildlife Rescue Centre of the Green Balkans organization. Children also took part in the release of the birds.

The birds that were tended to in the Wildlife Rescue Centre and then set free were ten common kestrels, one common buzzard and one long-legged buzzard, Hristina Klisurova told BTA.

Some of them were hatched at the Centre, such were part of the common kestrels for example, and others lost their parents for some reason and therefore came to the Centre for rearing, she explained. Klisurova pointed out that the Balkans Wildlife Rescue Centre  receives birds from all over the country. Before being released, each bird is dewormed and marked with a ring of the Bulgarian Ornithology Centre, which indicates its origin.

People brought in two black swifts found in the Sofia area for rearing at the Wildlife Rescue Centre on Saturdaty.
