Volunteers, Foresters to
Plant over 10,000 Trees near
Tserovo Village
Sofia, November 11 (Borislava Bibinovska of BTA) - More than 10,000 trees will be planted by volunteers and foresters near the village of Tserovo in the southern Pazardzhik Province, Nikola Rahnev of the NGO Gorata.bg told BTA. The Dream Forest initiative is being carried out with the assistance of Gorata.bg. and was proposed by Raya Ubenova, who owns the land that will become home to the new trees.
The aim of the afforestation is to help reduce climate change and increase people's awareness of environmental protection. The plan is to prepare the tree holes in advance, and the terrain is already being cultivated, Rahnev said.
On the recommendation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nasko Iliev of the University of Forestry, participants will be planting mainly oak, linden, maple, ash, elm, wild pear, wild cherry, and juniper. According to the initial plan, between 4,000 and 5,000 trees will be planted this Saturday. The trees are expected to grow by about 1 metre per year. The forest will be formed in 10 years, Rahnev said.
The organizers invite more people to join the initiative, which will take place in compliance with all anti-epidemic measures. Crowding will be avoided, and all participants will wear masks and be given disinfectants.
The event will be held this Saturday, November 13, from 10.30 a.m. The meeting point is in the main square of Tserovo.
