Salt of Life Project by Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation
in Second Place for
Council of Europe Landscape Award (2020-2021)
Sofia, December 5 (BTA) - The Salt of Life project of the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation received second place in the 7th session of the Council of Europe Landscape Award (2020-2021), said the foundation.
The Salt of Life project was implemented under Natura 2000 in the Atanasovsko Lake area, which is one of the key hotspots of biodiversity in the Black Sea biogeographical region. The beautiful and colorful Atanasovsko Lake is largely the result of the symbiosis between man and nature, the foundation explained, noting that nowadays, when the coast is heavily affected by urbanization, the lagoon is strategically important for the conservation of biodiversity along the Black Sea coast.
The first prize was awarded to the project Biodiversity in the City: Bergamo and the Astino Valley, Italy, which is followed by the Salt of Life project.
"This is a great recognition for us, and the high appreciation we received for our work and Atanasovsko Lake gives us motivation to continue working and to be convinced that what we do for nature conservation has its meaning and value for people," commented Radostina Tsenova from the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation.
The main goal ofthe Council of Europe Landscape Award is to raise civil society awareness of the value of landscapes, their role and changes within them. It aim to recognize practical initiatives in line with the implementation of the Landscape Convention. The award is presented every two years at a meeting of the Deputy Ministers of the Environment of each country party to the Convention. The European Landscape Convention aims to promote the protection, management and planning of landscapes and to unite European cooperation in this field. DT//
