site.btaOver 1,500 Runners Register for Three Competitive Distances of Varna Marathon


More than 1,500 athletes have registered for the three distances - 42.195 km, 21 km, and 10.5 km - of the Varna Marathon on May 11, said Mayor Blagomir Kotsev. In addition to them, over a thousand people are expected to take part in the popular and much-anticipated children's event “Run with Decathlon.”
This is the 10th edition of the competition.
Kotsev specified that, so far, participants in the competitive distances come from 34 countries, including representatives from Australia, Canada, Morocco and Kenya, among others. Several elite athletes from the Kenyan and Moroccan schools will be among those spectators in Varna can watch closely. Among the participants is also Georgia’s national record holder David Kharazishvili.
The competitions will start at 9:30 am from Independence Square in the city center. First to start will be the runners in the classic marathon (42.195 km) and the half-marathon (21 km). The 10.5 km event is scheduled for 9:40 am and the 2 km mass run for 9:50 am.
The marathon records in Varna are held by runners from Kenya.
