Bulgaria continues to support the activities of Bulgarian Sunday schools in Ukraine, as well as Ukraine itself in this unjust war, said Bulgarian Consul General Svetoslav Ivanov while welcoming students and parents in two Bulgarian Sunday schools - Az Buki Vedi with the Congress of Bulgarians in Ukraine, and Patriotism with the Academician Alexander Teodorov-Balan People's Community Center.
"There is a lot of Bulgarian spirit here with you," Ivanov said. "From your leaders I learned about your success in international competitions, which is very joyful," he said.
He said that the Bulgarian Ministry of Education continues to fund Bulgarian Sunday schools in Ukraine, which are the basis for preserving Bulgarian traditions and customs.
Every year the Bulgarian Government adopts decisions to support Bulgarian organizations with Bulgarian identity, said the Consul General, stressing that he will make efforts to ensure the possibility of applying for the established programs and support these two Sunday schools with the equipment of modern technological classrooms - with laptops and multimedia.
Ivanov pointed out that this academic year there has been an increased interest in applying to Bulgarian universities from graduates of Bulgarian ethnicity from Ukraine. In the 2024/25 academic year, 563 students were admitted to Bulgarian universities, which is about 100 more than last year.
The Az Buki Vedi Bulgarian Sunday school in the city of Bolgrad began its activities in 2010. "We have 115 students studying Bulgarian language, history, economics and geography. This school year, nine graduates from our school applied to study in Bulgaria," Director Alla Orlova told BTA.
