Bulgaria was the guest country at the Fifth Ljubljana Lace Festival, which took in the capital of Slovenia on October 19 and 20, 2024, the Bulgarian Embassy in Slovenia said on Facebook.

The tradition of Bulgarian lace making and its contemporary dimensions in Bulgaria were presented by Bistra Pisancheva of the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, who gave a lecture and led training in several workshops. In the framework of the festival, her exhibition was presented at the High School of Design and Photography in Ljubljana, which attracted hundreds of visitors, the diplomatic mission said.

Bulgarian Ambassador to Slovenia, Krassimir Bozhanov, addressed the participants in the Academy of Science and Arts and presented Bulgaria as host of the 21st World Lace Congress and General Assembly of the International Bobbin and Needle Lace Organization (OIDFA).  The event will be held in the towns of Karlovo and Kalofer on August 16-18, 2025. The programme features Bulgaria’s national lace festival on August 15, exhibitions, lectures, round tables, fashion shows, and an open-air jazz concert, among others.
